Bentley describes its new Brooklands coupe that's being unveiled right now in Geneva as a "grand touring coupe with classic British proportions." Yes, it certainly has classic British proportions if by that Bentley means it's as big as Britain itself. The new 2+2 coupe by the boys and girls from Crewe is named after the famed Brooklands banked race track in Surrey, England where Bentley made a name for itself in motorsports during the 1920s.
The Brookland's got a classic Bentley face, a modern profile (check out the fender vents!) with B-pillarless side glass and massive 20-inch wheels that shine with a mirror finish. The interior features typical Bentley craftsmanship, which means by-hand construction of the leather-lined surfaces and symmetrical wood trim. The rear passengers benefit from limo-like legroom and power adjustable cushions, as well. A prodigious amount of power is provided by Bentley's all-aluminum 6.75L turbocharged V8 with revised cams and a lower inertia turbo that helps push power to an even 500bhp and around 775 ft-lbs. of earth-wrinkling torque. Needless to say, 60 mph will come and go faster than your fat wallet. Only 505 Brooklands will be made by Bentley, making it one exclusive land yacht for the ridiculously wealthy. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the first half of 2008 for the sheiks, musicians and tech company moguls who will no doubt plunk down a deposit.

This looks so much better than the Rolls Royce cars that are now out there. This is classic British understated styling. It seems like the Bentley team gets what the old money people want, and not all flash like the new RRs.

I like the really subtle waistline lift above the rear wheels, sorta like a chick who wears a top that gives just a small glimpse of the massive cleavage you know is hidden from sight....
Although this one weighs a lot and is from England, could be a mistake to go near :)

i mean 500hp isn't what it used to be

the C pillar is too fat, i like the tail lights, but it seems like a mash-up with the continental. I really like the older Bentleys, but this almost looks like a hatch back

It seems like Bentley took a step back in the advancement of its company's design. The Arnage, Azure, and Continental series offer a modern & contempory yet classic design philosophy. This car just seems like the Bentleys of the 90's; Boxy, boring, and overpriced.

The old Bentley Continental T had the best proportions, it also had a very thin C pillar~i admit i really like the front end on this new one though

ahhhhhhhhhh. where the rolls fails miserably, this works completely. A beautifully done face, proportionally correct sides and back, understated elegance done right. Bravo Bentley.

Ditto, it seems a little odd to me that Crewe's most archaic engines are fixed to their most expensive models in the name of heritage et-al. I'd rather see VAG develop a new high displacement eight, say a 6.75l FSI naturally aspirated engine, then continue to string this ancient formula out further. Especially as I'm reasonably sure they would be able to stick to the 4.2FSI's remarkable 100hp/l formula.

1050meter-newtons and a 6 speed automatic.
Unless Mercedes is going to unveil a VERY high torque capacity 7g-tronic 1300 meter-newtons 959ft-lbs, then they should try pushing the current 7g past 700m-n 516 ft-lbs, say enough for a V10 off the AMG 6.2V8.
The V12 has 90mm bore center, for 540mm / 5 = 108mm, the AMG is 109mm spacing, so it would fit, and have more pedestrian crush space (90 vs 60 degree)
650hp, 600ft-lbs sounds about right from a 7.76 liter even firing V10

The new Brooklands is at once unmistakably British and unmistakably a Bentley. It looks what it is....expensive....with the exception of those gauche side air vents. Jaguar designers should look at this car for inspiration. Cars can still look traditional and elegant and British without looking like old cars.

There has been talk for ages about using a naturaly aspirated version of the Veyrons W16 around 700bhp but sadly nothing seems to have come of it. Would be good if Bentley had the balls to do that cause Rolls didn't. If you're only gonna shift 505 of them why not ??

More a work of art than a car. Something to dream about. Sadly, the Bentley badges still look like they have been glued on the body. The sheet metal under the badges should have been stamped (or fabricated by hand) to include a well that exactly accomodates the depth of the badge, resulting in a badge whose top is flush with the sheet metal. I wonder if the Brookland's seat cushion length has fully independent adjustment a la front seats of the Mercedes S-Class.

I can't wait to see when "Mulliner" puts there magical touches on this! (wider fenders and a dash of chrome and the interior gets that Mulliner signature!)........Brilliant!
